Representation of the human body has always been at the core of my work.
I am inspired by issues that deal with the location, the interpretation,
and the structure of both public and private identities. My recent work
explores medical recording methods, such as X-rays that penetrate the opaque
body and DNA tests that are used to genetically map every aspect of our
being. The power of such knowledge and the obliteration of inside / outside
limits provides us with a complicated and multifaceted view of ourselves.
I am trying to incorporate within my work the impact of technology, the
overwhelming amount of information available, and the physical interaction
we have with it. The images I construct are inspired by the anxiety this
causes, and attempt to find a place for myself and humanity where the unified
body is not an illusion or a fantasy.
